Therapeutic Techniques

Sometimes we might feel confident enough to help in a way that a professional might help. These can be relatively simple but quite effective.

For example:

  • do some calming relaxation or meditation exercises with a panicky friend
  • do some exercise with your friend to motivate them and increase their endorphin levels, e.g. go for a run, play some sport, go to the gym together etc
  • physically prevent an overdose by taking away drugs, medications, alcohol if you are worried about self-harm and suicidal behaviour
  • remove your friend from an abusive environment

Tertiary students have indicated that these are some of the things they have already tried. Give them a go if they suit.
